Food Safety on the Farm

Our laboratory examines potential routes of contamination within farming systems. Previous and active projects include:

  • Examination of foodborne pathogens and indicator organisms within an organic farming system, including turned pile and aerated static pile composting, irrigation water, soil and crops
  • Examination of foodborne pathogens and indicator organisms in irrigation water as well as water delivery and drainage systems
  • Examination of irrigation water treatment
  • Assessment of overhead cooling practices for tree fruit
  • Assessment of antimicrobial interventions for on-farm poultry harvest operations
